African royalty visits gallery

A Swindon art exhibition was given the royal seal of approval when the Prince and Princess of the Ashanti region of Ghana dropped in to view the paintings.

Prince Nana Opoku Agyemang and Princess Jaen have been visiting their daughter Anita Opuku Amoako in Swindon to see their granddaughter Trisha who is just 10 months old. The prince is keen on art so Anita took her parents to the Inkspot Spring Art Exhibition featuring all local artists.

Trisha’s godfather is John Fisher, from Wanborough, one of the artists whose work is in the exhibition. He is a security guard and good friend of Anita and her husband Stephen.

John grew up in Gibraltar and is a self taught artist. He is best known for his brightly coloured acrylic work.

There are around 12 artists showing their work at Inkspot in Edgeware Road.

The owner of the art supplies store, Annie Aiguier, said the royal visit was brilliant although she was a little in awe when she met the prince and princess.

The exhibition runs until the end of March and has a mix of subjects and a mix of medias.

The exhibition is free entry during opening hours.
