ACTIVITIES galore were on offer at a children’s fun day.

Eldene Children’s Centre, which is on the same site as Eldene Primary School, in Colingsmead, hosted a celebration day on Saturday.

Around 50 children had a chance to sample African drumming, the bouncy castle, barbecue, tombola, Swindon Park Ranger activities and junk modelling.

There was also a name the children’s centre competition.

Running alongside this was a car wash run by the 1st Dorcan Scout Group to raise money for a community minibus.

The bus will be used by the scouts, but also by specialist provision in Eldene Primary School, the Headstart nursery and other local community groups.

The day was in recognition of the children’s centre being given a core offer, which means it is providing the necessary services to operate as a children’s centre for nought to five-year-olds.

The celebrations will continue into next week with visits from the neighbourhood policing team, the Swindon Music Service and an artist.

Barbara Parry, administrator at the children’s centre said: “It seemed to be a very successful day, we were lucky with the weather.”

Mrs Parry also thanked the fire service for attending and councillor Kevin Parry (Con, Dorcan) who helped wash the cars.
