A BEAUTY queen will be showing she is more than just a pretty face when she drops 10,000ft for charity.

Miss Wiltshire Jo Logan, 22, will be braving a tandem skydive to raise funds for Prospect Hospice on September 11.

She will be part of a team of 30 fundraisers taking on the challenge at Redlands Airfield, in Wanborough, to raise funds for the charity.

“I am really excited but obviously scared as well. Knowing that I have raised a lot of money will be a great feeling,” she said.

“I thought while I have got the chance to raise money for Prospect it would be nice to do it – it is a one-off opportunity. It hasn’t really sunk in yet that I have literally got just days to go. I think I might freak out a bit the day before.”

The parachute days have proved so popular over the last few years that the charity has organised three events for 2011.

Jo, who teaches at Swindon Dance and is an early years assistant at Goddard Park Children’s Centre, has raised about £300 with sponsorship for the jump so far and is hoping to have raised £500 by the day.

The hospice is Jo’s chosen charity for her year as Miss Wiltshire in memory of BBC Wiltshire DJ, Sandy Martin, and also in tribute to her neighbour, Mandy Rundle.

“I want to help the Prospect because of the number of local people they look after and help and support,” she said.

Since 2009, Prospect Hospice’s parachute days have raised more than £30,000 and have seen people from 16 to 70 taking part.

“The nerves will really kick in on the plane. I have been comparing it to a rollercoaster but I expect it will be about 10 times that feeling,” she said.

“I love rollercoasters and the rush you get when you are on them. I am a performer too and it is almost that rush of when you perform in front of an audience and your heart jumps. It will be an achievement.”

Jo is also looking for separate sponsorship for a photographer to take the plunge with her.

And she is asking anyone who has charity events coming up that they would like her to attend to email misswiltshire 2011@hotmail.co.uk.
