PUPILS celebrating National Storytelling week came face to face with a children’s author to help them learn more about writing.
Children from Greenmeadow and Moredon primary schools, as well as Year 7 pupils from Nova Hreod, met Ali Sparkes during her visit to Nova Hreod. They heard about her books, which include The Shapeshifter series, Dark Summer and Frozen in Time, and asked her questions.
Ali Slaven, literacy enrichment co-ordinator at Nova Hreod, said: “I believe our students benefit greatly from these unique literacy opportunities, bringing insight and curiosity to their individual learning experiences. It is especially exciting when we can invite our feeder primary students into Nova.
“At Nova, we believe that everything starts with reading.”
Nova Hreod has been celebrating National Storytelling Week as part of its continued emphasis on creative writing and reading.
Students have been doing creative writing, finding out which stories staff enjoyed as youngsters and reading in tutor sessions.
Year 7 groups also competed in the Booked Up Book quiz on Friday.
The quiz was based on the free Booked Up Books that every Year 7 student received this year.
