POLICE are cracking down on anti-social behaviour in the town centre after a successful campaign against violent crime.
Officers will now target yobs who make noise, leave litter, urinate in the street and commit other public order-related offences.
The town centre area is now one of the safest in the country after the drop in crime figures.
Inspector Keith Ewart, responsible for the central sector, said: “We have seen a dramatic reduction in violent crime in the town centre, which is down by 22 per cent.
“It is one of the safest town centres in the country, but we are running increased patrols at key times to deal with anti-social behaviour.
“The majority of anti-social behaviour takes place between 10pm on Thursday through to Sunday night and is normally connected with pubs and bars.
“We used a range of measures to reduce violent crime and we will now be targeting public order offences.”
