He said: "The Link Centre and West Swindon Library are closed temporarily today, Tuesday 14 February, as a result of a major power failure.

"At this stage it isn't known how long the closure will be in effect and further information will be available when engineers have completed an investigation and assessment of the situation."

People wishing to use these services are advised to telephone before leaving home on: •West Swindon Library: 01793 465555 •Link Centre: 01793 445566

Will their Switchboard work without power.

sn5 says...
11:53am Tue 14 Feb 12

perhaps they might be using a phone line elsewere to deal with questions.

Robfm says...
12:21pm Tue 14 Feb 12

Perhaps but the number is definitely the Link switchboard number.

itsamess says...
1:03pm Tue 14 Feb 12

The numbers given are direct dial numbers and landlines do not use mains power--switchboards simply transfer calls to other lines.

Robfm says...
1:21pm Tue 14 Feb 12

So how do you know that, do tell. I am aware that single line incomers don't require mains power, however as I stated the Link number is their Switchboard number.

Hmmmf says...
1:53pm Tue 14 Feb 12

The switchboard could be in Bangalore. It doesn't have to be in the same building as the rest of the phones it serves.

itsamess says...
2:12pm Tue 14 Feb 12

The Link number is the link number--direct dial-IF they have a switchboard it would be to switch to other depts.
How do i know the numbers are direct dial--same as all other residents in swindon-we get a full list of direct dept numbers in numerous publications as well as out of hours emergency numbers--like sensible folk do.
Perhaps you should do the same instead of asking such a stupid question.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...
3:04pm Tue 14 Feb 12

I do hope the Link Centre haven't just given these numbers out without consulting Robfm first.

It's like when the WHO issued advice to the general public on bird flu and they never even bothered to ask Robbo about it beforehand.

Whatever next, the chancellor writing the spring budget without ringing the Crapenters?

Disco20 says...
4:36pm Tue 14 Feb 12

Anyway, even if it is a switchboard number, its not difficult to connect a "regular" phone or request the phone operator to route calls... Besides, who is going to call the Link when its shut, you have to be a moron to try and call them for booking or enquiries.. Its shut - no power...

I think it is sensible to use the number everyone knows.

You've outdone yourself here Bobbo...

Robfm says...
6:12pm Tue 14 Feb 12

How very predictable, thanks once again for showing you cannot resist trolling.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...

jabbra9 says...

Yet again Swindon Advertiser get it wrong!! Link centre open for all sports bookings , swimming and casual usage tomorrow. Sportscamp moved to Haydon Centre. Ice rink - please call 465441 after 9am to get update on casual sessions. and the number is a direct dial number to the centre it does not route through the switchboard

greenpacer says...
1:36am Wed 15 Feb 12

Maybe the guys busy laying new electric cable in Toothill had something to do with it !!!!

greenpacer says...
1:45am Wed 15 Feb 12

The power cut that is, not you lot getting in a tiswas over switchboards etc !

Robfm says...
7:29am Wed 15 Feb 12

jabbra9 thank you for the clarification, so a different number.

itsamess says...
8:11am Wed 15 Feb 12

Perhaps if you knew a little about council services you would understand most council depts or venues have numerous numbers--or in your little world do you believe all depts or desks use the same number. The direct dial number jabbra gave is solely for the ice rink.
Perhaps if you had taken the time to study council directories you would understand this also most council venues when called on the main number will offer to put you through to the correct dept number or/and offer you the direct dept number for the service requested--quite simple really to a normal person.

Robfm says...
8:14am Wed 15 Feb 12

So Walter now admits he has enough time to study telephone directories, what a riveting life he leads.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...
8:16am Wed 15 Feb 12

Hahah, good one Robbo (for once)

itsamess says...
8:59am Wed 15 Feb 12

How ridiculous--i would rather spend a few minutes looking up the direct dial number for the dept or person i want to speak with instead of sat on the phone in a queue waiting to get an answer from reception.

Robfm says...
9:14am Wed 15 Feb 12

Oh diddums.

tbelle says...
9:34am Wed 15 Feb 12

Might I suggest that if you call the number and there is no answer that means the link hasn't reopened yet? If there is an answer, they will answer your questions.

Disco20 says...
9:42am Wed 15 Feb 12

The underlying problem we have with the Link is that it should really be replaced.
The amount of time the ice plant fails and the roof leaks...
Remember, all those years ago when there was talk about a Leisure Centre, which would incorporate all the facilities currently offered by the Link, Oasis and Minton Road, to be built on Swindon's front garden...

Shame we couldn’t get it done before the Olympics.. Nor will we after they have been long forgotten...

Well done Robfm for starting another pointless arguement. What a tool you are.

Robfm says...

Pointless Jim, seems my point was in fact well made as this from the latest Link article says:

'As the power failure has had an impact on incoming telephone calls, failure to get through means the problem has not been resolved and the services are not yet open.'

Bob
The number given is being answered by an automated system which gives a direction to press 1 to be diverted to the ice rink--that was at 11am.

I rang the direct dial number for the ice rink which was answered and was asked if i wanted to book. No queue.
Do grow up--the impact was purely customers pre booked wanting to know if their booking was rescheduled or if other events would be going ahead
Most regular customers would have the direct dial numbers for all groups at the link.

Robfm says...
8:34am Thu 16 Feb 12

Merely quoting the other article Walter.

Yes but the Link is back open so they would answer wouldn't they.

itsamess says...
10:50am Thu 16 Feb 12

itsamess says...
11:04am Thu 16 Feb 12

Robfm says...
11:39am Thu 16 Feb 12

I know a switchboard doesn't work without electricity, something you clearly didn't, so you invented direct lines, which actually were on provided later on a subsequent article.

Disco20 says...
1:27pm Thu 16 Feb 12

Well done Bob for stating the obvious!

Besides, why the hell do you care. I'm sure its been a while since you have descended from your perch to frequent a leisure centre.

*sigh*

Robfm says...
1:34pm Thu 16 Feb 12

I was at one only yesterday as it happens.

gordonchalmers says...
6:04pm Thu 16 Feb 12

Robfm
Switchboards are very much a thing of the past, even then they did not need electrical power.

Modern systems are operated from simple buttons or automatic transfer from any phone in the system. Could it be that you have never rung an automated system which gives you numerous options,or is that a little too difficult for you to understand?

Robfm says...
6:10pm Thu 16 Feb 12

Gordon try reading the other thread on this, the information was quite clearly stated:

'As the power failure has had an impact on incoming telephone calls, failure to get through means the problem has not been resolved and the services are not yet open.'

gordonchalmers says...
6:21pm Thu 16 Feb 12

Robfm
The services may well have not been open, but the telephone lines certainly were, and extremely busy due to reports on the radio, and in the Advertiser.

I would drop it if I were you as you do not appear to understand a lot about telephone systems.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...
8:28pm Thu 16 Feb 12

Err... gordonchalmers are you suggesting that Robfm should admit he is wrong?

Do you actually realise that Robfm is pathalogically incapable of admitting he is wrong about anything?

Now you get the picture Punctured--i found out how bobby cocked up so many times when logging in other names--gordon is with me and used my pc to demonstrate how bobby cocked up. His login was in the name space--but my name comes up--all down to computer settings.

Robfm says...
7:44am Fri 17 Feb 12

Oh dear Walter what a lame excuse, like pretending the email from was sent from Gordon Chalmer's computer.

There is simply no way a wrong login can appear if it is registered with the Adver site, which Chalmers must have been.

There is 14 minutes between your posts, had you been trying to prove a point you would have posted immediately afterwards.

You have been sunk by your own lies.

The difference is Walter non of my logins were a mistake of posting. They were due to cloning by others, forgotten passwords etc.

Daniel10 registered and using an email clearly one of mine was registered for reasons previously slated.

You have conclusively shown what a liar you are.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...
7:59am Fri 17 Feb 12

I think this is going to go down in the annals of time as being messy's very own Daniel10 moment.

What it really does conclusively show is that the two biggest mouths on here are a pair of deceitful liars, as if proof were needed.

Incessant bickering and dragging every thread you post on into a slanging match trying to outdo each other should earn the pair of you a permanent ban from the site.

I think the IT department would have quite a formidable task trying to track down and suspend all the different accounts you have between you.
Daniel10 registered and using an email clearly one of mine was registered for reasons previously slated.

Robbo you are probably still drunk from last night so I can forgive you for writing such garbled nonsense but please don't expect the general public to fall for your lies.

Robfm says...
8:12am Fri 17 Feb 12

Punctured the ultimate hypocrite ready to jump on any argumentative and add his own brand of abuse.

That said Walter has indeed exposed the liar he is. He used Gordon Chalmers email address to me, and has clearly used the same gmail address to register.

I am more than happy to list all by logins Punctured, Bobfm (hijacked). Robertfm (lost password) Robert Feal-Martinez, used to add articles to South Marston section. Robfm, my current one, and of course Daniel10.

No more just these. Unlike others I don't have the inclination to invent hundreds of hotmail type email addresses.

itsamess says...
8:18am Fri 17 Feb 12

Not at all bob as i was puzzled as to the several occasions you cocked up. You seem to have forgotten you gave me access to your computer the little experiment was to prove the mistake you made the time lag was due to a check being made on some settings. It satisfied my curiosity and proved a valuable point. Gordon does plan to become a regular poster here and is considering standing in the elections.

Punctured bicycle on a hillside says...
8:19am Fri 17 Feb 12

No that's because you don't have the nous to avoid exposing yourself as a liar, like you did with daniel10.

The 'Gordon Chalmers' posts of late also included a classic messy trait; the use of the double minus sign '--' as some form of custom punctuation system. I've noticed this on other suspect posts as well.

A pair of deceitful liars.

I do hope the Adver take steps to ban the pair of you and allow these comment sections to return to normality.

Robfm says...
8:28am Fri 17 Feb 12

Punctured I repeat the above log ins are my only ones.

Walter no one has accessed my computer, I have asked you to provide a simple proof like anything visible on my desk top. You can't, not even something as simple as my background.

I have never cocked up Walter, let alone several times.

As for Gordon standing for election that should be interesting. You do know you have to prove who you are to do that Walter. Oh I know the security services will invent a fake ID for you.

gordonchalmers says...
9:55am Fri 17 Feb 12

Robfm
You sir are living in a very surreal world. Sorry to disappoint you, but my login and details supplied to this site are to the requirements and not an anonymous name either. I feel sure the adver would be happy to confirm that fact.

You comment to itsamess why he cannot tell you what is on your desktop or your backgound, has to be one of your defining comments. This shows you have no understanding of computer systems and why you are very easily caught out. Any expert will tell you how access is gained and where information is stored. A very simple matter for an expert to obtain specific information.

Punctured bicycle
My posts have been few to date, but I do plan to comment as and when I please. You have issues with messy going back some time. You do spend a lot of time fault finding with trivial suspicions which do not stand up to scrutiny, The '--' trait is used quite widely on this site. Be warned; I will not accept abuse from you or anyone else on this site. I am quite happy to discuss or share information via e-mail or phone as I have no security issues.

Robfm says...
10:07am Fri 17 Feb 12

Ah so do you have a landline, thought not.

gordonchalmers says...
10:23am Fri 17 Feb 12

Robfm
Talking in riddles gets you nowhere.

In common with most I have a landline and office number.

Robfm says...
10:49am Fri 17 Feb 12

Then as you are standing for election perhaps you could enlighten us all with your profile, after all that is the minimum expected from potential candidates.

As for in common with most, the use of landlines is at an all time low.

gordonchalmers says...
11:34am Fri 17 Feb 12

Robfm
If and when I decide to stand as a candidate I will follow the rules which I am well aware of. Having served 3 terms as a Councillor before I moved to Swindon.

As to landlines. BT lost out to other companies who can offer a superior service with better rates. Internet service providers in general offer far better deals. I would suggest you examine some of these options as there can be great savings on both land and mobile devices as it is a very competitive market.

Robfm says...
11:43am Fri 17 Feb 12

More than happy with our telephone deals, about £35/month for landlines (2), broadband and free calls.

Have been with the same outfit for a lot of years, when I mention them to the others trying to sell to us, they simply give up.

As for mobiles, two phones cost us about £2/month.

Ah served as a Councillor for 3 terms, well simple task in finding your profile then.

gordonchalmers says...
12:16pm Fri 17 Feb 12

Robfm

Apologies but I have to meet some friends for lunch and will not be here until Sunday at the earliest when I will be at Walters for the day with others.

Robfm says...
6:55pm Fri 17 Feb 12

Walter love to have a look at his profile but unless he is a Councillor in Mull, which he can't be, he's no longer a Councillor, and that Councillor is still in post, then no profile exists, that could possibly be him, on any of the professional profile sites.

JAN unless SBC issue every single member of staff with a mobile VOIP they would need power for the computers, so how does your comment actually help. I have VOIP but if I unplug the base station it doesn't work.

Just another number says...
7:18pm Fri 17 Feb 12

itsamess says...
7:53pm Fri 17 Feb 12

Bob
You seem to have not read that gordon was a councillor prior to his move to swindon. Research is not one of your strengths is it?
Possibly because of your lack of ability to read what is written.
What has computers got to do with telephone systems.

Just another number says...
7:55pm Fri 17 Feb 12

Very funny Robfm -- do you really think that is even relevant? Consumer VOIP? In business it isn't a case of download Skype and plug in a headset. Your understanding of VOIP is extremely limited if that's all you know.

Best you also Google 'enterprise voip' whilst your at it. Maybe you should put in an FOI request to the Council too, they've changed their whole phone system and didn't ask your permission. Shock! Horror!

Robfm says...
9:16am Sat 18 Feb 12

Walter, try reading what I posted, I said that he couldn't be the only Councillor Gordon Chalmers listed as that individual is still a Councillor when 'your' Gordon Chalmers claimed his being a Councillor was historical. That doesn't alter the basic fact that there is only only and he is a 'Highlander'.

JAN I will ask a simple question. Are you stating that VOID works without any part of the system requiring electricity.

Because I have done as you suggested and looked up 'voip desk phone' and all say they require mains power, so perhaps you could provide a link to a system that doesn't.

I am sure that one of the many people I know in the Council will tell me if SBC use voip.

itsamess says...
10:18am Sat 18 Feb 12

As stated bob--not very good at research are you.

Just another number says...
10:21am Sat 18 Feb 12

Robfm, if you're asking about electricity then you don't understand VOIP. The world has moved on and left you in a deep dark hole hasn't it?

One can only hope that perhaps someday you will realise how stupid it makes you look when you prattle on about about a subject like you think you know it whilst making it abundantly clear by your lack of understanding that you haven't even managed to understand what you've found on Google.

In enterprise VOIP telephone numbers are not registered to a particular VOIP phone until someone logs that number into a VOIP phone. If the electrics or network fail in one facility, then staff can simply transfer their number to a phone in another facility. With systems and software also centralised, staff can log into a generic workstation and access the same software and systems they would have at their own desk. Clearly an advantage in situations were a disruption in service would be detrimental.

VOIP at SBC is old news, they switched over years ago. A good many businesses and local authorities have done so. I guess you just weren't important enough to be told about it.

Robfm says...
10:37am Sat 18 Feb 12

So JAN what you are saying is at some point or somewhere VOIP requires electricity, the only point that is relevant to the issue. All the rest of your waffle is just that waffle.

Walter if I am so bad at research post the link that reveals the other Gordon Chalmers (Councillor), after all when posting as him you claimed openness and transparency and nothing to hide.

Anyway if he is not you and such a good friend that he allows you to use his computer and email address then you will be able to say where he stood as a Councillor, he says he is open and transparent and will provide contact details, I already have his gmail account if you are telling the truth then nothing to hide.

Just another number says...
11:58am Sat 18 Feb 12

Robfm, your inability to understand such a simple explanation does show your ignorance runs even deeper than expected. Poor chap.

Let's make it even simpler -- just for you.

If the electrics fail in one building, then staff in a business using VOIP can simply log their number into another VOIP phone in another building that uses the same network, and carry on taking calls as though nothing had happened.

Business Continuity, of which that is an example, is just one of the many reasons why VOIP is becoming so commonplace.

Robfm says...
12:14pm Sat 18 Feb 12

I understand that JAN, the important part of the equation being the electric in the other building. Ergo electric is a fundamental requirement for VOIP, something you claimed it not to be.

Moot point, Robfm, electricity doesn't matter if a telephone number can be transferred by simply logging into another VOIP phone at another facility that has working electrics. Takes about 30 seconds to do and then the service is restored.

Capital try, but stupid is as stupid does. Poor chap.

BTW -- really enjoyed that moment when you assumed that the Council had bought every employee a satellite phone. Nearly fell off my chair. I hope your 'friends' at the Council find your failure to understand VOIP just as amusing.

Walter oh please post the link and people can see it in the context that it was said. Because for the life of me I do not have a clue, but it certainly would not have been in admiration for Hitler, as in the man or his actions.

Just for the record there are 5997 threads on the UKIP section of BDF, with an average posting rate of 20 or so, that's nearly 120,000 posts. Trawling that lot to come up with a quotation that I used in some context just illustrates very clearly that Walter is not of this world, he is away with the fairies.

And before he says he simply put in my name in the search facility, it simply doesn't work like that.

Something that is repeated knowing it not to be true is a lie. Ergo you are a liar JAN.

As you are in your contention that you never stated or implied that VOIP worked without electric.

'Robfm, if you're asking about electricity then you don't understand VOIP. The world has moved on and left you in a deep dark hole hasn't it?'

That statement clearly implies electric is not necessary for VOIP, which was merely the point I was making, nothing more.

Good morning to you all. This thread epitomises why Swindon is in a bit of a state.
I will introduce myself despite the fact you have learned a little about me. One person has of course tried to search my details albeit unsuccessfully. It was put forward that I may stand in the forthcoming elections. Indeed I was offered that chance which I have declined. Having been a Councillor for 3 full terms in another area which fortunately had Councillors who listened to the people and the needs of the area covered. I have been in Swindon just over 5 years and have adjudged I have insufficient
knowledge of this town and what appears to be a shambles of a Council to bring about any change.
Prior to that armed with a useful education I was fortunate to gain entry into investigation (which I do not intend to expand on). I served 20 years. I set up a small business in the same field whilst serving as a Councillor. I set up a full time business here with a colleague.
With the increase of internet crime and the increase of legislation to combat this.
Most people are aware that sites like Google rely on the input from others; which may or may not be accurate. It is illegal for items from sites like these to be copied to the internet. You will all hear the shouts on here as to trolling/stalking etc.
This thread is very typical on this site and why the providers of the service restrict the content on the site as opposed to the hard copies.
A simple thread about a popular Council Leisure Venue and the efforts of staff and contractors to keep it open which has descended into claim and counter claims against others.
How do you view a former police officer who has a long record of non truths on numerous forums. The claim that as such and that he is one of the few who is not anonymous. The only time he posted in his full name he made a claim as to why he was allowed to do so caused the site administrator to post the truth on the site.
As to 'messy' 'walter' 'itsamess'
yes I have a great friendship and professional associationship with him. None of you appeared to have noticed he had reduced his input here as he had achieved his aims.
If and when I choose to comment on here I can assure you all I will not accept the type of abuse he has been subjected to. Nor will I accept false claims.
I should explain I have monitored the site for over 2 years and posted sporadically in an anonymous name.
Itsamess is not likely to be here for a few days as he was drafted into a group and lew out yesterday at short notice. I understand the internet is down where he has gone.

Smokin Joe, if we are to believe that Gordon Chlamers is a real person, who is being honest, then I have a question for him.

Given that you claim to have served 3 terms as a Councillor elsewhere, where was that.?

I only ask because you must have kept a lower profile than a sewer rat, there not being any reference to you whatsoever on any political search.

Even the quietest of councillors names would appear somewhere in relation to their position.

So you either:

1. Walter resident fantasist.
2. Not really a Gordon Chalmers former Councillor.
3. A former Councillor of a different name.

So which is it. You stated you would be open and transparent and honest, which it appears so far you haven't.

AG, it is amusing. He claims to be a real person of said name and a 3 time councillor and yet there is only one and he is on the Mull, and still in post.

It simply would be impossible for there not to be an internet reference to him.

As for him enjoying the moment.

As I've done all I intend to, I am satisfied he is either lying about his name, lying about having been a Councillor, or both.

He is Walter aka Itsamess, he can deny it but offers no proof.

Smokin Joe says...
10:46am Mon 20 Feb 12

I'm not very observant? What have I missed? (I mean that honestly, not in an argumentative way. Genuinely: what have I missed? Because I don't think I've missed anything, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.)

I'm not an aggressive person, or a troll, or someone who seeks to have an argument with people. But I will call people out when they're not playing fair. Robust debate and argument is all well and good. Dirty tricks, ie logging on under two names, posting maliciously, being abusive, are not.

Can you also explain the rest of your last post? 2 versions of messy's style? So are you saying you do write like messy or you don't? I don't get it. And you're right, I don't post very often, but I do enjoy reading this site. But I don't really know what the frequency of my posting has got to do with whether you've logged on with two usernames.

And when you say 'I must assume you are an expert at such a valuable skill.' what are you saying? That I have used other usernames? Are you thinking that if you throw enough mud around it will detract from you? I've never posted under multiple usernames, and you have no basis to suggest that.

Like most people, you are making assumptions. Read what you said "Gordon writes exactly like messy".
Could you tell me where you trained in writing techniques to qualify such a statement as I have 2 guys in my team here with precisely those skills, both are also handwriting experts. A great portion of my business is identifying internet crime both serious and minor. From the stalkers to the crims in coded messages.
Both the sentences you quote are complete sentences. That is the skill I was referring to; your assumption is incorrect.
I do not have to invent a persona; more a case of Robfm trying to cover up his very poor skills at finding details of persons. He has been trying to identify messy for over 2 years.
Likewise I did not suggest you had used other logins, but many regular posters have simply changed user names.
You speak of robust debate; sorry sir but you must know this is very rare on this site and generally decent local stories end up in slanging matches. I am not here for that purpose, and have used my real name and details. Finally I had to satisfy a final detail in the enquiry into Robfm. Using the method stated solved as it closed a loophole. No I will not explain further for legal reasons.
Quite honestly I rarely post on sites as I usually do the collation for my team. On this occasion I have sufficient further information. I will stick around as I am sure by the end of the day someone else is going to make a big mistake.

I'm glad you weren't implying I've used multiple logins - for the record I haven't changed usernames either.

I am not trained in writing techniques in any way. It's not really the point - I'm not offering a forensic analysis, just a general impression that the writing styles seem to be similar.

Look, strictly speaking, yes you're right. The two sentences I quoted are complete sentences, in the same way that "If it rains." is a complete sentence. But it's missing a clause. Generally IF sentences are completed with a THEN, as in "If it rains, then I'll take my brolly."

The two sentences I quoted are also missing clauses:

"With the increase of internet crime and the increase of legislation to combat this." isn't really complete without a secondary clause, ie, "With the increase of internet crime...more resources are needed." (or whatever) OR "Having been a Councillor for 3 full terms in another area which fortunately had Councillors who listened to the people and the needs of the area covered...(an explanatory clause)" I'm sure you get me.

My point was just that I've noticed itsamess does the same thing, regularly, in a way that other posters don't. You don't need to be a writing expert to notice that.

And yes, I've noticed robust debate is very lacking on this site - more's the pity.
