Water main work completed early

THE first section of work to improve a water main serving Royal Wootton Bassett and RAF Lyneham has been finished ahead of schedule.

Thames Water is due to replace 3km of the 16-inch main with a bigger pipe between Ashton Keynes water treatment works and Flaxlands reservoir.

The pipe has burst 30 times in the last 10 years, but the work required the closure of the B4696 Ashton Road, between Gosditch and the Three Bridges.

The closure was scheduled to go on until June 29, but the road should now re-opened on Monday, subject to approval by Wiltshire County Council.

Andrew Popple, Thames Water’s Programme Delivery Manager, said: “We’re delighted to say that we have completed our work a month ahead of schedule.

“Good weather at the beginning of the job and easier ground conditions meant that we could complete the work more quickly than expected.”
