Dangers of unathorised infilling

CONTROVERSIAL works to resolve high water levels at Cotswold Country Park and Beach have been put on hold so councillors can see the full extent of unauthorised infilling at the site.

Watermark Leisure Ltd has applied to Cotswold District Council for retrospective planning approval for an unsanctioned ski tow slope that was built into Lake 31 at Somerford Keynes in 2010.

But councillors were concerned that infilling that has already taken place could prove hazardous to anyone using the lake for recreation.

As part of the plans Watermark wanted to create a weir to control water levels and to carry out landscaping work to create wildlife habitats.

Somerford Keynes Parish Council chairman Karen Mogridge told the CDC planning committee that works should be conditioned on the actual water level, rather than a predicted level, which she believes is inaccurate.
