Administrators for Rangers Football Club have said "no immediate cuts" will be made to playing staff before it meets the players.

The Glasgow club appointed administrators Duff and Phelps after a petition was lodged by HM Revenue and Customs at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to have one appointed for them.

Rangers FC went into administration over an unpaid tax bill of £9 million, accrued since boss Craig Whyte's takeover last May.

A spokesman for Duff and Phelps said Paul Clark, one of the joint administrators, would meet manager Ally McCoist and the players on Thursday.

He said: "There will be a review of staff, including playing staff. That will take its course."

The spokesman added that players have not been asked to play without being paid.

The team get an automatic 10-point deduction in the Scottish Premier League because of the administration move, falling 14 points behind SPL leaders Celtic.

The clubs is also awaiting the verdict of a tax tribunal which could cost it £75 million.

Joint administrators Mr Clark and David Whitehouse said in a statement on Wednesday: "In broad terms, supporters can be reassured that Rangers will continue as a football club and we hope to reach a stage as soon as possible where the club can emerge from administration.

"We have had expressions of support across the political spectrum in Scotland within the last 24 hours and there is clearly a desire to see Rangers come through this situation successfully."
