Commissioner to visit Mela
12:00pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News In Brief
THE Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, Angus Macpherson, will be on hand to meet visitors to the Swindon Mela on Saturday.
Mr Macpherson will be making his first visit to the popular event since his election last November, but he is a long-standing Mela fan.
He said: “I love the Swindon Mela, not least because of the delicious South Asian food stallholders will be cooking.
“It’s a wonderful celebration of Asian arts and culture in the glorious setting of the Town Gardens.
“An essential part of my role as Police and Crime Commissioner is to consult the people of Swindon and Wiltshire and events like the Mela offer a golden opportunity for me to meet the public.
“Feedback on people’s policing priorities and on their experience of crime and anti-social behaviour helps me to shape my Police and Crime Plan and hold the Chief Constable to account.
“Meeting people also gives me a chance to explain my role and how I am commissioning services from a range of agencies and organisations. I am also keen to encourage fresh applications to my Innovation Fund.”
Mela visitors who would like to meet the Commissioner should look out for his purple and white marquee.
Wiltshire Police also have a stand at the event, which runs from midday to 7pm at Town Gardens in Quarry Road.
