HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher is delighted to have retained the services of his captain TJ Bohane for another season.

The Worthians chief says that his striker had offers to play in the Southern League next term but has opted to stay loyal to the Hellenic League Premier Division club.

“It is great that TJ is staying,” Fisher said. “He is one of the best two finishers in the league.

“He could have gone and played in the Southern League next season, but he didn’t want to do the travelling and he told me he is staying put.

“The squad for next season is looking quite promising but I’ve been in this game long enough to not get over-excited until they sign on the dotted line.”

Fisher says that most of the squad from last season have said that they will be returning to the Elms for pre-season training.

“At the moment I’m enjoying a break from football, because you can waste your whole life chasing players who have no intention of joining you,” Fisher said.

“I have text a few players and they said they will come to pre-season training but until they are there and signed you just don’t know.

“No one from last season has told me that they aren’t returning but to be honest they wouldn’t, I’ll just hear on the grapevine that they are playing elsewhere, I accept that.”

Highworth will play six friendlies this summer with games against Didcot, Purton, Swindon Supermarine, Abington Town, Marlborough and New College.

“The Purton and Didcot games are on Friday nights,” Fisher said.

“It means that the players can have a couple of Saturdays off before the season gets going.

“Also I don’t think having more than six games would benefit anyone either as you will have players away on holiday - six is just right.”
