SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb has heaped praise on his team as they made up for last month’s 6-1 horror show at Totton to progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

When Supermarine travelled to the south coast in the league it was a day to forget as they found themselves on the wrong end of a one-sided scoreline.

However Webb was delighted with the response he got this time out as goals from Harry Etheridge and Sam Morris were enough to send the visitors into the hat for the next round.

“I am so pleased for the lads and everyone that went along to the game, it was a great team performance,” said Webb.

“What happened there three weeks ago in the league, we were keen to put that right and that is exactly what we did.

“Everyone worked hard from the goalkeeper right the way through the team.

“We were comfortable, they didn’t seem to be causing us too many problems and we probably could have had more goals with the opportunities we created but we just couldn’t find that final pass.

“This is a great result for the football club in terms of revenue as well and we’ll be looking forward to seeing the draw for the next round.”

Both sides started the first round qualifying tie well and Supermarine benefitted when the Stags striker Craig Feeney, who was looking lively up front, went off after 25 minutes.

Supermarine got their break through on the half hour mark when a cross from Josh Morse found Harry Etheridge at the back post to tap home.

Webb’s men went in at half-time 1-0 to the good and carried on creating chances in the second half but were unable to find the finish.

Supermarine did eventually double their lead with seven minutes left to go when Chris Taylor played in Sam Morris who beat the keeper from just inside the box to wrap up the win.

“The goals came from two unlikely sources but that is good to see because we have got to try and get the rest of the team chipping in with the goals and not just the two up top,” added Webb.

“I had no doubt that, after Tuesday’s match, the players were going to come back from that with a reaction and put in a performance.

“We can now look forward to the draw.

“There are still some sides left in the competition who are below us in the leagues but there are others who are above us so we will need a bit of luck.

“It doesn’t really matter who we play in the next round, they are all going to be decent sides but a home tie would be nice for us.”
