SAM Collier is hoping for a change in fortunes after watching his Shrivenham Town side lose 4-2 at Binfield on Saturday.

The loss was their third straight defeat in the league but Collier believes that his side are playing better than the results are showing.

“It was 4-2 but I think the scoreline is a bit harsh on us.

“That is the second week on the trot we have said that now and at the end of the day we’ve got to score goals to win games and not concede goals that put us in bad positions.

“Although I think we are looking well, we need to start getting points on the board.

“In the second half of the Bassett game we absolutely battered them and I said that it was important that we took that into Binfield.

“I thought that we gave it a real good go but they caught us on the break several times.”

Shrivenham went into the game with seven players out injured and even player-manager Collier had only just returned from knee surgery.

Binfield took the lead just before half-time when the visitors switched off at a corner and the deficit was doubled in the second half when Binfield caught Shrivenham on the break.

A goal from Josh Fowler gave the visitors hope of getting back into the game and Shrivenham looked likely to find the equaliser before being caught again on the break to fall 3-1 behind.

Collier converted a penalty to reduce the deficit again but as they pushed forward Binfield were able to get the decisive fourth goal moments from the end.

“We had seven injuries which makes a difference at any level of football, but especially so for us,” Collier added.

“We have just got to keep playing the way we know and hopefully the luck will start to change.

“We have a long way to go in the season and we can’t panic.”
