MANAGER Albert Dearing was in no doubt that lady luck wasn’t with Southbrook last weekend but thinks his side can pick up positive results in the Wiltshire League if his players reproduce the character they showed in Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Melksham Town Reserves.
In a tight encounter, the deadlock was broken as the unfortunate Terry Dearing sliced the ball into his own net from a Melksham free-kick.
Central defender Clint Walker was forced to fill in between the sticks for the second half after goalkeeper Devan Brown was injured in a challenge with an opposition player and another half-time change ended in disaster as Rob Metcalfe picked up two quickfire bookings and was sent off.
“Our keeper was on the end of quite a bad challenge - he had to limp through to half-time and our centre-half had to go in goal,” said the Southbrook boss.
“Then I brought on Rob Metcalfe and he got two yellow cards in five minutes and was sent off. I have to take responsibility because that was my decision.
“But with ten men, we really went for it and we’ll do well if we can show that kind of character again.”
Elsewhere, third-placed Wroughton were held to a 1-1 draw by Corsham Town Reserves.
Malmesbury Victoria beat Marlborough Town 2-1 at the Flying Monk Ground.
Supermarine Sports found their scoring boots as they thrashed bottom-of-the-table Vale of Pewsey 9-3 whilst Wootton Bassett Town Development won 1-0 at Wilts Calne Town.
