SOUTHBROOK manager Albert Dearing was left without a goalkeeper last weekend but his side still had enough about them to pull off a comfortable victory at struggling Vale of Pewsey.

Clint Walker was forced to fill in between the sticks midway through last week’s clash with Melksham Town Reserves after Devon Brown was injured and with the Southbrook stopper and fellow goalie Max Scholefield missing at Pewsey, defender Walker had no choice but to step in once again.

But Dearing’s men pulled off a 5-2 victory at Ball Road to get back to winning ways in the Wiltshire League Premier Division, with Reece Gilliver hitting a brace and Terry Dearing also getting on the scoresheet as the visitors led 3-1 at half-time.

Gilliver completed his hat-trick in the second period and after bottom-of-the-table Vale had hit back to reduce the deficit to 4-2, Devan Bryan pounced to net Southbrook’s fifth of the match.

“Clint has ended up having to go in goal a few times now and he’s done well every time he’s had to - I think this was the first time that he conceded a goal,” said Dearing.

“The main thing with him is that he looks the part. He’s a big lad and he throws himself about a bit too.

“I should have both of my keepers back next week and I’ve found out that I’ve lost one of my centre-halves on Sunday, so Clint will be back in defence.

“They (Pewsey) had made eight changes and brought a lot of experienced guys in but it’s hard to do that and it’s not going to happen overnight.

“They worked very hard and I don’t think it will take that long for things to turn around for them.

“For us, it was all about going out there and getting a result, which is what we did.”

Southbrook are in Wiltshire Senior Cup action next weekend against league rivals Trowbridge Wanderers.

Elsewhere, Supermarine Sports saw their four-match unbeaten run come to an end as they were beaten 4-2 at home by Ludgershall Sports.

Malmesbury Victoria’s Senior KO Cup trip to Wroughton was postponed, with the Vics in FA Vase giant-killing action last weekend, whilst Wootton Bassett Town’s game at Devizes Town Reserves was called off.

In the North Berkshire League, Jonny Eudell struck two and Adam Hogan grabbed a third as Ardington & Lockinge won 3-1 at home to Faringdon Town for whom Jamie Hopgood netted in Division One.

Faringdon Town Reserves won 3-2 at home to Sutton Courtenay in Division Two with Stuart Finnigan, Christian Wills and James Tyler scoring their goals. Mike Hooton and Will Wright replied for Sutton.

Mennan Calvo struck twice for Berinsfield Reserves in Division Four to give them a 2-1 home win over Faringdon Town ‘A’ who scored via Ryan Sharps.
