DAVE Webb says hopes that young striker Dan Drewett will remain a part of Swindon Supermarine’s future after rejoining Highworth Town on dual-registration forms.

Drewett, who joined Swindon Supermarine in the summer from Shrivenham, has found his opportunities in Webb’s front line limited so far this season and opted to switch back to the Hellenic League in a bid to get more minutes under his belt.

But the Marine manager remains a big fan of his striker’s potential and has his fingers crossed that Drewett, who hit a hat-trick for Highworth in their Wiltshire Senior Cup victory over New College on Saturday, will be back at the Webb’s Wood sooner rather than later.

“The problem is that he wants to be playing every minute of every game and when you’re a young player in the Southern League, that’s not always going to happen,” said Webb.

“I brought him to the club in the summer because I think that he has the ability to play at a higher level but we had a good chat and I had to respect his wishes.

“I think that he could be a big part of the future here at the football club and hopefully he wants to be.”

Marine were held to a 1-1 draw by Tiverton Town at home yesterday, with Chris Taylor cancelling out Tom Gardner’s opener seven minutes from time by firing home from the penalty spot after Ryan Stanners was tripped in the box.

Chief Webb thought that his team didn’t get the rub of the green but was nonetheless delighted with the character shown by his players.

He said: “There were a few decisions that didn’t go our way. Luke Hopper was wiped out a yard from goal and it should have been a penalty and a red card in my opinion but the referee has said that their player has got the ball.

“Their goal came from a corner that shouldn’t have been given. The linesman’s 50 yards away and has no way of seeing if it’s gone out but the referee has given it anyway.

“We’re disappointed not to have won the game but I have to give credit to my players for the way they fought back and at least we haven’t been beaten.

“We’ve got a Red Insure Cup game on Tuesday (away to Cinderford Town) and then a big game against Fleet Town in the FA Trophy – we want to try and win a few games in that this year.

“What we also want to do is try and go on a little bit of an unbeaten run if we can.”
