FOCUS will be paramount for Swindon Supermarine chief Dave Webb as his side go looking to kick off a memorable cup run this weekend.

Marine host Evo-Stik League Division One South & West rivals Fleet Town in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy on Saturday and the Webb’s Wood Stadium manager believes that his team have every chance of progressing through the rounds, given the right application and appropriate sprinkling of good fortune.

Webb’s men exited at the first qualifying round of the Trophy last term and made it to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup this season before being knocked out by Conference South side Havant & Waterlooville.

The Marine chief wants his players to be on their mettle for the challenge of Fleet, who they beat 2-0 in the league last month.

“The FA Trophy is a great competition and the players really enjoy it – it’s massive,” said Webb.

“In the FA Cup, we got through two games, but in the FA Trophy, you have a good chance of going through three or four if you can have a bit of luck with the draw.

“We have to treat this Saturday like any other game but we have to give respect to Fleet. We went there and won in the league and I’m well aware of where the dangers are in their side.

“I thought that we were excellent against Tiverton (last Saturday) and it would be great if we could perform like that again.”

On Tuesday, Marine’s trip to Cinderford Town in the Red Insure Cup was rained off, with the two sides set to try again next week on Tuesday October 21 (7.45pm), providing neither has a Trophy replay to contend with.

Webb said: “It was our first game of the season to get rained off and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

“It was a shame because we had three or four players that we wanted to get some minutes in to. Kyle Lapham has only played in one game and a few training sessions.

“Joe Shepherd, Eddie Stevens and Ryan O’Hara could have done with some time too as they’re not fully-fit.”

Bradley Gray is still four weeks away from returning to the fold whilst Luke Abrahart is out with a knee problem. Mark Flanagan and Joe Shepherd are suspended whilst Harry Etheridge is a doubt with a thigh injury.
