NEW College earned themselves a hard fought 0-0 draw away to Wantage Town Reserves on Saturday.

On the same day as former manager Rob Hopkins tied the knot, College were unable to find the back of the net to make it a double celebration.

It was a spirited display from the young College side who had Max Flynn, who missed last week’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Tytherington Rocks, back.

Ben Wells also returned for the visitors after being missing through injury since the FA Vase game with Thame, but College could not find a way past the hosts’ keeper.

“It wasn’t a bad result, we created a number of chances but unfortunately just couldn’t finish them,” said manager Mark Teasdale.

“Fair play to Wantage they did shut up shop fairly well and I suppose in the end a draw was a fair result.

“It is just a little bit unfortunate, when we do get those opportunities in front of goal we don’t take them.

“We changed the formation this week. Rather than having a 3-5-2 we went to a 4-3-3 just to try and stop conceding and it worked really well and for a change we weren’t sloppy at the back and made the right decisions when to clear the ball and when to play.

“For me it is constant learning for the boys and as long as they are learning each week from the game, the good things and the bad things and they can work on the positives and eliminate the negatives then that is good and what we are aiming for.

“The games now come thick and fast. We’re at Longlevens next Saturday which will be another tough test for us but hopefully we can build on what we did today and go and give Longlevens a game as well.”
