RAMSBURY charged to the top of the Swindon & District League Division One as they put Swindon Centurions to the sword last weekend.

Ramsbury are locked on 13 points with KS Miltax and The Clifton and top the pile courtesy of goals scored, with their goal difference receiving a hearty boost thanks to Saturday’s 9-0 demolition of the Centurions.

Glen MacKenzie starred as he hit a hat-trick whilst Adam Elmer, who notched twice, Stephen Lloyd, Jono Andrews and Matthew Darvell all also found the net at Hilldrop Lane, with the visitors also putting one into their own net.

Ramsbury captain Chris Roberts said: “Our striker, Glen MacKenzie, has come back to the club this season and he’s scored three or four hat-tricks already.

“We used to run a team in the Wiltshire League too but it got hard to put two sides out every weekend so we rolled things back into one team – we just lost contact with Glen but now he’s back scoring goals for us.

“Their heads dropped a bit towards the end but it was obviously a good win for us.

“We finished third last season but we went on a really good run after Christmas and if the season had gone on a bit longer, I think we would have pipped the side that finished top (Lower Stratton).

“We didn’t go up and we’ve got another crack at it this year.”

Elsewhere in Division One, unbeaten Clifton inflicted a first loss of the season on second-placed Miltax thanks to goals from Jimmy Horwood and Jake Kitchin, whilst Redhouse won a 6-5 thriller against North Swindon WMC.

James Conde netted twice for Redhouse whilst Paul Peverley, Chris Ulllah and Steven Nicholls all also got themselves on the scoresheet, with North Swindon also scoring an own goal.

Meanwhile Swindon Spitfires thrashed Core Construction 9-4.

In the only league fixture to take place in the Premier Division, James Lewis and Adam Blakeman scored as Old Town United beat DJC Marlborough 2-0.

Shield & Dagger progressed through to the next round of the Adver Cup, claiming a dramatic 6-4 won over Village Inn in extra-time, whilst Lower Stratton hammered Division One Chiseldon 8-1 to book their place in the second round.
