DESPITE having an injury list the length of his arm Swindon Supermarine manager Dave Webb is still looking forward to the prospect of entertaining Swindon Town this evening.

With Town not having a game at the weekend, Mark Cooper saw the opportunity to keep his players match fit and have a look at the depth of his squad with tonight’s friendly.

Webb, who saw his side win 1-0 against North Leigh on Saturday, will use the opportunity to look at the new faces he has brought in over the past few weeks to help deal with the injury crisis.

Cameron Pirie and Scott Bevan, who both signed from Forest Green Rovers on dual-contracts miss the game, but Webb is hoping to give former Town player, Jake Simpson a run out after issues with him signing on were sorted at the weekend.

“I have got a couple of lads we will have a look at,” said Webb. “I was hoping Aaron Oakley would be fit for that game, but we’ll have to have a look and see how many are available. We have a couple of lads who didn’t play on Saturday who can also get involved so hopefully we will be okay.

“It is great to have them (Swindon Town) here and hopefully it will get a few coffers in for the club and it is a good opportunity for us again.

“It has got to be better than training. We will probably be chasing a lot of the ball so it will give us an opportunity to work on our defensive shape and when we do get it can we keep it.

“It is always nice and it is great that that link is still there with Swindon and fortunately it is the second time we get to play them this season.”

Webb has also had the chance to work alongside former Leeds United manager Dave Hockaday, since he took an advisory role with the club last month.

Hockaday was alongside Webb in the dug-out to oversee Saturday’s victory and despite the former Forest Green Rovers boss looking for a return to the Football League, Webb is hopeful he can hang around as long as possible.

“Hockaday is tremendous, I played vets football with him a few years ago, and he is a fantastic coach who has a massive knowledge of the game,” added Webb.

“To listen to him, to work with him, to watch him take some of the sessions he has done has been magnificent.

“It has been good to work with him and hopefully it has been for a few more weeks yet.”
