SPECTRUM manager Bryan Watson admits that he was slightly daunted by the prospect of his side locking horns with in-form Old Town United but was pleasantly surprised as his team took all three points.

Second-placed Old Town were unbeaten in their last five league outings but Spectrum took a first half lead through Carl O’Regan’s strike.

United levelled from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 at the break but Spectrum sealed a 2-1 victory through a spot-kick of their own, with substitute Aaran Northcott firing home the decisive goal after the visitors were penalised for a handball in the area.

“Looking at Old Town’s form, I was a little bit worried going in to the game,” said Watson.

“We’d had a little bit of a bad spell recently. We’d played Avtar, who are top of the league, twice in a row and they did us over twice and we also drew with Swiss Chalet.

“But this was the first time I’d been able to put out a full-strength side in a while and we played well.

“It was a really good result and a good game of football. Sometimes you get games where teams hoof it but both teams played some good football.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Village Inn moved up to third in the table with a 4-2 victory over second-from-bottom DJC Marlborough.

Village Inn raced into a 4-0 lead within 40 minutes before Kevin May and Dave Harris reduced the deficit.

Bradley Rogtao and Anroy Menezes put Sportz Central 2-0 up against basement boys Swiss Chalet Rangers but they slipped down to fourth after they were held to a 2-2 draw in Moredon.

Swiss Chalet had already missed a penalty before falling two goals behind but Jason Castle netted the equaliser from the visitors’ second spot-kick of the afternoon, adding to Mark Hughes’ earlier strike.

In Division One, league leaders KS Miltax moved three points clear at the top after a 5-2 win in their top-of-the-table clash with Redhouse.

Third-placed Swindon Centurians hammered lowly Core Construction 9-2 whilst North Swindon WMC won 5-4 at Chiseldon.

The Clifton finally played their second round Swindon Advertiser Cup clash with Ramsbury and progressed with a 3-2 extra-time triumph.
