SWINDON Supermarine chief Dave Webb was satisfied with his side’s workout in Tuesday’s 3-0 friendly defeat at home to Swindon Town.

Marine had their illustrious opponents worried in the first half at the Webb’s Wood Stadium and were unlucky to trail at the interval after George Barker found the net late on.

Aaron Ferris and Corey King had already tested Town keeper Ty Belford, while Bradley Gray rattled the visitors’ crossbar with a cracking 25-yard drive.

The League One outfit showed their class in the second period, however, and efforts from Ben Gladwin and Jack Barthram wrapped up the win.

Despite the defeat, Webb still saw plenty of positives from a makeshift Marine side.

“We got the call about a week ago and jumped at the chance at having another game against Swindon but what I didn’t foresee was having 11 players not available,” said Webb.

“That was disappointing because it would have been nice to have a stronger side to play against them but all in all it’s been a useful exercise.

“It’s nice to bring some of the younger players in and we’ve got minutes into a couple of people who haven’t played. There are real nice positives and it’s always nice to play against Swindon.

“We had some good opportunities to score in the first half but didn’t quite do that. It was a good workout and it served a purpose for us as it did for them, so it works well.”

Marine are back in league action on Saturday and travel to Taunton Town.
