HIGHWORTH Town and Wootton Bassett Town will both go in search of a place in the Wiltshire Cup semi-finals tomorrow.

The duo face home ties against Toolstation Premier Division opponents in the last eight, with Highworth hosting Melksham Town and Bassett welcoming Bradford Town to the Corinium Stadium.

Highworth boss John Fisher is looking to translate last weekend’s FA Vase heroics at Blackfields & Langley into more cup success but will be without the suspended Chris Jackson against table-topping Melksham.

“I always felt this four-game spell would decide our season,” said Fisher.

“After the two cup games we’ve got Flackwell Heath and Kidlington in the league. We could either be absolutely flying or have seen an absolute disaster.

“Saturday is no different to last weekend and we have to try to put in the same kind of performance.

“Melksham are a decent side. You don’t get to the top of the table if you’re not, so it’s going to be a tough game.

“But we’re at home and we’re half decent there.

“We are a bit of an unknown to each other and they’ll be just as worried about us as we are of them.

“It is a chance to get into the semi-finals of a cup and that’s not a bad incentive.”

Bassett, meanwhile, are looking to end a run of three games without a win but boss Paul Braithwaite took heart from the 1-1 draw at home to Binfield on Wednesday.

Braithwaite’s side have already faced Bradford this season – a 2-1 loss on the road in the FA Cup – and are hopeful of welcoming James Skinner back into their squad this weekend. However, Sam Brown and Josh Skeates are expected to miss out again.

“The Wiltshire Cup is a good tournament for local teams. You want to get as far as you can and it’s good to get a bearing of where you stand compared to the teams nearby,” said Braithwaite.

“We’ve played Bradford already, so it’ll be a good test to see how far we have progressed.

“We were still relatively new then and we’re much more settled now. I’d expect to push them a lot harder.

“I think we’ll know more about them than they will about us, so hopefully we can use that to our advantage.

“Wednesday’s result certainly gives us a bit of confidence, especially having got beat 6-0 at the weekend.

“I think a result like that would have finished a lot of teams off but we bounced back well.”
