SWINDON Supermarine were stung by an injury time equaliser as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Shortwood United on Saturday.

Bradley Gray’s second-half strike had looked set to secure Marine all three points at Meadow Bank, only for Josh Klein-Davies to snatch the hosts a share of the spoils when he found the net three minutes into stoppage time.

Corey King was on target for Dave Webb’s side in the first half, cancelling out Marley Thomas’ early opener for Shortwood.

The finale was eerily similar to Marine’s defeat at Stratford Town on New Year’s Day where an equally late strike also proved costly.

Marine boss Webb said: “It was a little bit disappointing we didn’t win when we were that close.

“We had some good opportunities to get a third goal, although they had chances themselves before they did get the equaliser.

“It was a set-piece pretty much bang on full-time. They took a long throw into the box and although we had plenty of men in there we didn’t get a challenge in, and their lad was able to turn and score.

“When you are a couple of minutes away to concede so late makes it more frustrating and as a group the lads were very upset, especially having conceded so late against Stratford a few weeks ago as well.”

Although disappointed to miss out on victory, Webb was keen to focus on the positives as the draw continues Marine’s recent good run.

They were 2-0 winners over the same opposition in the Red Insure Cup in midweek and have collected 10 of the last available 15 points in the league.

That has allowed them to pull away from the wrong end of the table and they continue to gather momentum in their bid to push towards the play-off places before the end of the season.

Webb said: “It would have been great to get three points but a draw at Shortwood is not a bad result.

“It was a really good performance and we created some good chances to put the game to bed.

“But I think that shows how far we have come and the progress we have made that we are going to places like Shortwood and Stratford now and expecting to come away with three points.

“That only bodes well for the games we’ve got ahead as we try to put a run together to pull ourselves up the table.”
