HIGHWORTH Town made it three wins on the spin with a dominant 3-0 success on the road at Newbury.

John Fisher’s side were in control from the off and broke the deadlock when Ashley Taylor found the net following a corner.

Topscorer TJ Bohane doubled the advantage before the break and Callum Parsons put the result byond doubt when he got Highworth’s third in the second half.

Manager Fisher was delighted to come away with another win, although admitted it was far from a vintage Highworth display.

“It’s another three points in the bag which is what we wanted,” said Fisher.

“It wasn’t brilliant but we did enough to get the win and that’s what matters.

“We started off very well but then they had a good chance and could have scored.

“We steadied ourselves and got a goal to put us in front and then were able to get another one.

“Although we were 2-0 up I wasn’t that pleased with how we’d gone in the first half as I felt we were over playing a little bit.

“We spoke about it at half-time and after that we were comfortable and got the third goal to put it to bed.”

Sights of the Highworth goal were few and far between for struggling Newbury and Fisher was keen to praise another solid defensive performance.

As well as three straight wins it is also now three clean sheets in a row for Highworth, who are eighth in the table.

“We have got some good lads at the back and I say to them before every game that all I want from them is to defend,” said Fisher.

“If all five of them walk off at the end and we haven’t conceded then they have done their job, it doesn’t matter what anyone else in front of them has done.

“If you don’t concede then you are halfway there and you need to keep clean sheets if you want to be successful.

“You can try different things in attack but you don’t mess around with your defence. You see it at every level across the country because it’s so important to have stability there.”

Elsewhere, second-from-bottom Shrivenham’s game at home to Oxford City Nomads was called off because of the wet weather, while Wootton Bassett Town were without a scheduled fixture.
