HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher has taken all the blame after his side threw away a two goal lead to draw at home with Milton United.

Despite the home side going down to ten men inside the opening 20 minutes with Steve Bunting seeing red Fisher’s team were able to go into half-time with a two goal lead.

Sam Wadieh headed Highworth into the lead on the half-hour mark before Liam Edmondson doubled their advantage before the break.

However, The Elms side took their opponents too lightly and Milton were able to strike twice in the second half through Jack Daley and Richie Claydon to claim the point.

Fisher admitted that he may have played about with his side too much with one eye on Wednesday’s Wiltshire Senior Cup semi-final against Amesbury Town.

“I blame myself,” said Fisher after the game.

“Sometimes you have got to take responsibility. We have had a lad sent off after 20 minutes and we have gone in at half-time 2-0 and the atmosphere in the changing room was too lackadaisical.

“Everybody thought the job was done and I did as well and we didn’t give the team we were playing enough respect and we got punished for our own misdemeanors.

“The team talk didn’t last too long and people were mentioning Wednesday’s game, which is a massive game in the Wiltshire Cup, but looking back I have got to take responsibility for that.

“It is not going to cost us anything but I am disappointed they have got back into it.”

Highworth replaced a number of players in the second half to rest them for Wednesday’s cup game and it proved costly.

Fisher has admitted that it is tough balancing his side with the number of cup games they have but has vowed not to have a repeat of the second half display again this season.

“It won’t happen again, they will be told that,” added Fisher.

“It is not the substitutions because the players I put on are good enough.

“At the end of the day we should beat sides like Milton and we blew three points out of the water because of our attitude in the second half.

“It is difficult with the cups because we are leaving players out and resting players and you are looking over your shoulder.

“The league has got to be there but everyone at the club is talking about the Vase.”
