SWINDON Town Girls U16s romped to an emphatic 22-0 success over Highworth Town, with Lauren Abery claiming half the goals.

Prior to kick-off, all the girls respected a minute’s applause for Rhiannon Brown, the Swindon goalkeeper who died tragically in January. Many of the Highworth players and coaches have also played with Rhiannon over the years.

When the game got under way, Swindon’s attacking style paid immediate dividends as they swept into a three-goal lead inside ten minutes thanks to a hat-trick from Abery.

Swindon’s lead was further extended through a brace from Karolayne Castro-Alencar, while Abery got five more goals in the first half.

Also on target before the break were Meghan Larkin and Sophie Boycott, while a stunning run from Swindon right-back Georgia Botfield saw her fire into the top corner for her first goal of the season.

Swindon’s direct style again proved too much for the Highworth defence in the second half as further goals followed from Georgie Gibson and Mia Mugford.

Kathryn Bach then cut in from the right wing to curl a left-footed shot beyond the goalkeeper, while Abery took her own personal tally of goals to 11.

Completing the scoring were Sophie Boycott and Castro-Alencar, although credit should go to Highworth who played with great spirit and sportsmanship throughout.

Swindon Spitfires U16s were beaten 3-1 when they travelled to Trowbridge for a top-of-the-table clash.

The game was played at a cracking pace, with the home side making the breakthrough as a result of a poor defensive clearance that fell straight to a Trowbridge forward ,who struck a dipping shot past Spitfires keeper Chloe Mason.

This triggered a deluge but brave goalkeeping from Mason kept them at bay.

The hosts did make it 2-0 five minutes before half-time when a corner was flicked on at the near post and headed into the top left hand corner.

Keeper Mason was injured attempting to make the save as she collided with the post but afterwards, Spits rallied and played out the last five minutes in a more attacking mood.

The second half was a closer affair, with Spitfires showing real steel to get back in the game but they were forced to carry out a goalkeeping change as Mason's first injury was impacting her ability to dive, with Sophie Kirby replacing her.

Spits’ determination created an opportunity and Amy Connaghan and Poppy Cottrill combined to find Charley Reynolds, who forced a save from the Trowbridge keeper.

Kat Reynolds then went close on three occasions before Trowbridge nearly scored on the break, only for Kirby to pull off a fine save.

Trowbridge were then able to extend their lead from a corner, which was volleyed into the top corner.

Spits bounced back and made it 3-1 before the final whistle as Charley Reynolds’ corner evaded everyone and nestled into the back of the net.

Spitfires U14s were handed a narrow 1-0 loss on their trip to Melksham Town.

A game that was always going to be a close affair lived up to its billing as few chances fell to either team, with the contest settled midway through the second half when a penalty was awarded against the Spitfires.

The goal seemed to wake Spits up and a good run into box by Tamzin Davis saw her low cross tipped away by the keeper, with the loose ball falling just behind Charlie Tinson.

A Spitfires corner then saw Lucy Scrannage run in at the far post unchallenged, only for the ball to just sail over her head.

Swindon Spitfires U13s travelled to Launton for their first game in nine weeks and came away with a 3-0 win.

Good link-up play between Lara Wilson and Jasmin Hindon on the left saw several crosses sent into the Launton penalty box, although no one in the Spits attack could get on the end of them.

Midway through the first half, a cross by Wilson was met by Courtney Gleed, who snuck a shot just inside the post.

Launton worked hard to get a goal back before the break but some good defending from Morgan Ly Culley, Georgia Miller and Lara Wilson kept Launton at bay.

The visiting Spits increased their lead in the second half as good work in midfield through Shannon Whitley and Georgia Gillie sent a through ball to Hindon and her cross was fired home by Gleed.

Spitfires’ midfield continued to work hard for the remainder of the clash and Hindon and Aimee Prinzi caused Launton all sorts of problems, while when the hosts did break, Culley, Wilson and Amelia Sharp were up to the task.

Spits got their third a couple of minutes from time when Gleed got away from her marker to beat the advancing keeper.
