FAIRFORD Town boss Gareth Davies is delighted that his side have finally turned the corner after months of near misses.

At the start of the week Davies’ men had failed to register a league victory in their last 13 matches, a run stretching all the way back to October.

But they were back in the winners’ enclosure on Wednesday night when they triumphed away at New College and followed that up with another three points on Saturday with a 3-2 success at home to Letcombe.

“Six points in a week, considering we hadn’t won in God knows how long, is decent,” said Davies.

“We had just been making silly errors and not been doing the basics right but in the last few games it’s been like watching a different team.

“We’re over the moon and it’s moved us up a couple of places. The next game is against Carterton and if we can get another three points we can move up another place. It’s been a very positive week.”

It was far from plain sailing for Fairford on Saturday, however, as they almost let a 3-0 half-time lead slip against Letcombe.

Steve Hall returned to the side after a long-term injury and bagged a double early on before new recruit Ant Packer added a third.

But the wheels fell off in the second half as Callum Pryce struck twice for Letcombe, with Fairford forced to hang on in the closing stages.

“We made hard work of it as we were 3-0 up at half-time,” added Davies.

“Steve Hall has been out for a long time but we brought him back in and it was like having a new player.

“He scored a really decent goal to start with, then he scored direct from a corner, and then Ant Packer scored as well.

“We’ve brought Ant in from Wroughton recently and put him in the middle of the park.

“In the last couple of games he has been superb and made a real difference. His work-rate at attitude has rubbed off on the rest of the players.

“Both those new lads we brought into the side did the job.

“We took our chances and I said to the lads at half-time to continue like that.

“We took our foot off the gas and let them back into it but we held on and I don’t care if we win ugly at this stage as long as we get the three points.”
