WOOTTON Bassett made it three draws in a row when they came from behind to hold high-flying Kidlington at home.

After a goalless first half, Tommy Castle fired the visitors ahead soon after the restart but Bassett mounted a spirited comeback and Callum Wright struck to snatch a 1-1 draw.

Although they never really looked like winning the game, Bassett boss Paul Braithwaite believes his side were well worth their point as they remain in a comfortable mid-table position.

Braithwaite said: “We talked before the game and the first priority was to put in a good performance and maintain the standard we’ve set recently.

“The lads responded well to that and I think they did exactly that and I think the draw was the fair result.

“Kidlington probably had the better of the possession in the first half and our keeper had one or two saves to make but nothing really tested him.

“Then in the second half I think we were the better side and although we went behind, we showed good character to come back and get the equaliser.

“By the end I don’t think anyone could really argue that we deserved our point.”

The result follows draws against Thame United and Shrivenham, as well as a victory away at Reading Town in recent weeks, and helps Bassett achieve a four-game unbeaten run for the first time this season.

Braithwaite revealed he set his troops the challenge of achieving that goal prior to kick-off.

“We spoke at Reading that we’d like to put a good run of games together, and then after the Shrivenham and Thame games we said that we hadn’t had a run of four unbeaten this season so we set that as a little target,” said Braithwaite.

“The players took that on and did really well and now we want to see how far we can go with it before the end of the season.”
