SWINDON Supermarine are set to be without top scorer Luke Hopper for tomorrow’s Southern League Division One South & West match away at Bridgwater Town.

Hopper limped off injured in Marine’s 2-0 defeat at home to Mangotsfield United in midweek and boss Dave Webb does not expect him to recover in time to travel to Fairfax Park.

His absence will be a big loss for Marine, with Hopper scoring eight goals in the last five games.

Webb said: “Luke is not good. He’s still very sore so I’d say he’s definitely out.

“He’s got a really nasty gash on his ankle and needed about eight stitches.

“That’s a major blow for us considering he is the top scorer with 21 goals and has been scoring so freely recently.

“It adds to our woes and it’s been like that all season. We seem to get injuries at the wrong times.

“We have still got seven games to play and some of those are against really tough opponents. We are still trying to win every game but to lose Luke is a blow to that.

“It gives someone else a chance. Connor Waldon is more than capable of scoring goals and Ryan Stanners has had a good first season at this level.

“Hopefully they can step up and take on the mantle this weekend.”

Webb was also keen to wish his former club Highworth Town well in their FA Vase semi-final first leg against North Shields.

He said: “All of us at Swindon Supermarine would like to wish them every success.

“People have written them off before so hopefully then can use that as motivation.”
