SWINDON Spitfires United secured an emphatic 22-1 win over Market Lavington on Sunday, despite fielding an unusual line-up.

With a few players missing, United shuffled their pack. However, they could still rely on the services of the league’s top scorer, Mel Bristow, who immediately showed her worth with a goal in the third minute.

Bristow was also on hand to create the second, as her cross was met by Carla Compton.

In the 12th minute Georgia Leonard’s through ball allowed Bristow to score her second. Compton added her second two minutes later, meeting Louise Norden’s well-timed cross.

Bristow’s first hat-trick came on the 16th minute with a nice a solo effort.

The goals continued to rain, with Claire Morton scoring from close range just before the half-hour and then good pressure from Compton allowed Caroline Hook to add another on 31 minutes.

Compton got her hat-trick in the 33rd minute, before finding Morton on 35th minutes for United’s ninth.

Leonard rounded off the half by adding two more to take the tally to 11.

In the second half, United continued to pile on the pressure. Bristow got her fourth in the 49th minute and Leonard bagged her triple on 51 minutes after firing through a crowded area.

Morton scored her hat-trick before Bristow added another. Then Leonard scored her fourth, closely followed Morton’s fourth.

Norden created Bristow’s next goal, to clinch a double hat-trick, and she was then rewarded herself after a solo run on 77 minutes.

Bristow added another and headed home her seventh from Norden's cross on 84 minutes, before Norden completed her brace after meeting a Compton parried shot.

With every match against United, Lavington always seem to score and they were rewarded moments from the end as stand-in keeper Diane George was thwarted.

Next week United entertain Melksham Town in the League Cup semi-finals.

Wootton Bassett Town Ladies returned to winning ways away to title chasing Forest of Dean in Division 1 of the Gloucestershire Women’s League on Sunday.

A single Lisa Curtis goal, her first for the club, sealed the win for Bassett.

Bassett pressed hard right from the start, but the tall back-line of Forest of Dean stood strong to deny the away team any break-through. It left the scores level at the break.

In the second half Bassett tried to change up their style of play and the fluent passing really paid off as they again created wave after wave of attacks on the Forest of Dean goal.

The Bassett pressure eventually saw them take the lead on 75 minutes, with Curtis finishing well into the roof of the net.

Bassett continued to press, but ultimately one goal was enough.
