SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb heaped praise on striker Connor Waldon as he marked his final game for the club with a goal in the comfortable 3-0 win at home to Fleet Town.

Waldon has spent the last three months on loan at the Webb’s Wood Stadium but will now return to parent club Swindon Town for the end of the campaign.

The young forward has been a useful addition to the Marine squad during an injury ravaged campaign for the club and Webb was keen to commend his contribution.

“He’s been fantastic and it’s been great to work with him,” said Webb.

“He came in and started a bit slow as he was obviously lacking match fitness but as soon as he got up to speed he’s been great and he’s enjoyed it.

“I wish him every success back at Swindon. Hopefully he stays there and continues to get better.”

Waldon got the second of Marine’s three goals just after half-time, rolling his man on the edge of the box before firing into the bottom corner.

Chris Taylor had earlier broken the deadlock in the 20th minute, with his curing effort getting caught up in the wind and catching Fleet keeper Ryan Pryce out as he could only fumbled the ball in the net.

Ryan Stanners then completed Marine’s lot midway through the second half, lashing home from 15 yards, as the hosts enjoyed a relatively trouble free afternoon.

Webb added: “We were fortunate to go in front in the way we did but I think we deserved the three points. The keeper just lost the flight of the ball, his footing went and it went it.

“I’m really pleased with the result. To keep a clean sheet is always nice and to score three goals is great as well.

“We’ve also had two young lads come off the bench to make their debuts, Ryan Morgan and Max Slinn from New College, so that was good as well.

“Fleet have got some good players on the counter attack so we had to be wary of that.”

Marcus Schuster-Johnson returned to the Marine squad for the clash and impressed at right back.

He spent a loan spell at the Webb’s Wood Stadium earlier in the season and Webb says he will finish the campaign with the club.

“He was here earlier in the season but then he got recalled by Basingstoke and was then on loan at Hampton & Richmond,” said Webb.

“He wasn’t really playing and we had the opportunity this week to bring him back for the remainder of the season.

“He’s got great energy, he is a good athlete and when you’ve got the injuries we are still carrying, to get him back was a no-brainer. He wanted to come and play and he played great.”
