A NATHAN Blackford hat-trick helped Highworth Town to a thumping 6-0 success over local rivals Shrivenham in the Hellenic League Premier Division, yesterday afternoon.

John Fisher’s men made the short trip to Barrington Park full of confidence following their 5-0 win over Holyport at weekend.

TJ Bohane opened the scoring with a fifth minute penalty, before Callum Parsons doubled the advantage for the Worthians.

Skipper Bohane made it 3-0 before Blackford netted twice to give Highworth a 5-0 lead at the interval.

Shrivenham battled hard after the break and only conceded when Blackford slammed home his third of the day from the penalty spot late on in the game.

“I take no pleasure from that result,” said Fisher.

“It could have quite easily been 12, so I have to say 6-0 was respectable.

“It does no-one any good when it is so one-sided, Shrivenham did well to get a team out - they had four players drop out at 1.30 - I just felt so sorry for them.

“There is no doubt that we are on fire at the moment and I’d rather be in our position than theirs.”

The win at Barrington Park means that Highworth have now scored 14 goals without reply in the three matches following their FA Vase semi-final defeat at North Shields.

Fisher is now looking at securing a fourth place finish.

“We had so many chances, it was so one sided. But we are looking at finishing fourth and this keeps us on track.

“I have got a side that are enjoying their football and we also have a Wiltshire Cup final to look forward too.”

Wootton Bassett Town stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 4-1 success over Brimscombe and Thrupp.

After a goalless first-half, Dan Bailey fired Paul Braithwaite’s side into the lead before Steve Robertson doubled the advantage.

Ashley Caldwell missed the opportunity to half the arrears for the Gloucestershire side when he spurned his spot-kick before Nathan Gambling added Bassett’s third.

Caldwell made amends for his miss shortly after, only for Robertson’s second of the match to restore the three-goal lead.

Fairford Town will be looking to bounce back from their 4-1 defeat at Hook Norton when they make the short trip to Cirencester Town Development this evening in Division One West.
