SWINDON Spitfires United were made to work for their point after a 4-4 draw against Highworth Town in the Wiltshire Women’s & Girls League Open Age Division.
Highworth took the lead on nine minutes as midfielder Alex Baker flicked to Hannah Dalgleish who found the net and they scored a second as Sarah Rayworth curled home from an angle.
Two minutes later, it was three as Dalgleish sprung the offside trap and convert.
United pushed forward and pulled a goal back as Georgia Leonard fired a shot from 45 yards, which the Highworth keeper watched roll through her legs.
In the second half, United came out strongly and Mel Bristow’s through ball allowed Caroline Hook to run through and lob the ‘keeper.
United dominated thereafter but it wasn’t until the 82nd minute that they equalised as Leonard fired home.
In the 89th minute, Diane George’s 45-yard screamer flew over the stranded keeper’s head for United’s 100th league goal this season.
However, Highworth had the last laugh as Dalgleish was fouled just outside the 18 yard box and from the free kick, Sadie Harrison headed home.
Marlborough Ladies are through to the Open Age Cup final after a 2-1 win over Swindon Spitfires Development.
They took the lead through Kirsty Miles five minutes into the second period.
Spitfires levelled when captain Cara Costello fired home a penalty.
However, with three minutes remaining, Marlborough took advantage of a failed Spitfires attack as a ball from the left wing was headed in by Cheryllynne Pattie.
