IT WAS an eighth wonder for Swindon Spitfires as they completed a comfortable 8-1 victory over Derry Hill.

It took just five minutes to open the scoring for the hosts when a throw in from Tamzin Davis into the box was chased down by Sophie Hynd whose presence forced the keeper to slice the ball into her own net.

Spitfires lead 4-0 at half-time courtesy of a back post header from Shannon King to add to strikes from Charlie Tinson and Davis.

Hynd further increased their lead with a clinical finish from just inside the area before Charlie got her second of the match.

Derry Hill were able to pull back a consolation goal but a chipped finish from Emily Bowdidge and a volley from Fiona Whittle wrapped up the 8-1 victory.

Last Wednesday, Spitfires Under 14s held league winners Frome Youth to a 1-1 draw.

After 10 minutes the Spitfires began to get into the game and began asking the Frome defence questions but failed to break down a dogged defence.

Frome broke the deadlock after half-time with a breakaway that saw a high cross from the right evade everyone to be headed in at the far post.

Spitfires pushed for an equaliser and were rewarded with 10 minutes to go as Charlie Tinson picked up the ball in the box and her low drive across the goal found the corner of the net.

Spitfires Under 13s lost to Oxford City, who needed a win to win the league, 4-1.

From an Oxford attack they thought they had scored but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Spits drove forward and good work in the box, lead to Jasmine Hindon being brought down.

From the resulting penalty Gen Bayliss scored to give the hosts the lead.

Oxford pushed players forward putting pressure on the Spitfires defence of Morgan Ly Culley, Lara Wilson and Aimee Prinzi but all three were up to the challenge and when Oxford did get through Sian Barber in the Spits goal held firm.

The second half started with Oxford throwing everyone forward in search of the equaliser, which came after 10 minutes.

An Oxford corner was not cleared and the ball was driven back towards goal deflecting off a player into the net.

Both teams pushed forward for the second goal and Oxford thought they had scored but Barber in the Spits goal made a double save to prevent them taking the lead.

Oxford did eventually get their second with less than 10 minutes on the clock, when their striker picked up the ball and drove past her marker to score.

Spits were not to be out done and shortly after a great run and cross by Chloe Neate just evaded the incoming Hindon.

With less than three minutes remaining Oxford were able to score two quick goals to seal the win and the league title.
