HIGHWORTH Town manager John Fisher has said that the 2015-16 campaign will be his final one in football.

The Worthians chief agreed to stay on at The Elms for one more year after guiding them to the FA Vase semi-finals and Wiltshire Senior Cup glory this term.

And having coming to an agreement with chairman Rohan Haines, the veteran boss is looking to end his career in football, which has spanned 40 years, with the Hellenic League crown in 2016.

“Next year is going to be my last one,” Fisher told the Advertiser. “This season has been so tough. It left me drained.

“But the chairman asked me to stay on for one more year. I love the club and I said that I would, but only on the understanding that it would be my last year.

“If they try to persuade me to try stay on beyond that, I’ll just walk away then and there.”

Fisher, who guided Highworth to the Hellenic League crown in 2005, says that he is looking forward to spending more time with his family once he finally retires.

“People will say that I’ll miss it – I won’t. It will be tough, but I’m looking forward to spending time with my family," he said.

“My wife has been so supportive over the last 40 years, my daughter gets married next year too.

"I’ll still go and watch football but it will be nice to take a step back.”

While some may find it strange that Fisher has announced that the next campaign will be his last already, he wants to go out on a high.

“After the season we have had, we have got to be looking at winning the league next year,” he said.

“We have got a good squad and with a couple of additions, we have got to go for it.”
