WROUGHTON won the 64th playing of the Faringdon Thursday Memorial Cup Final with a 5-2 defeat of Abingdon Town at Faringdon Town FC.

Wroughton last won the cup in 1992 - their only previous success - and went a goal down before Richard Saunders levelled.

After falling behind for a second time, Glenn Armstrong equalised and, in the second half, Armstrong added two more and Ryan Keech also netted, three of the goals being set up by man of the match Steve Nesbitt.

IN THE Wiltshire Women’s & Girls League, Swindon Spitfires beat Trowbridge Wanderers in the Ladies Division.

Cara Costello, Hayley Shipp and Dani Granato gave Swindon a 3-0 lead, but three goals in nine minutes for Trowbridge restored parity.

Becks Kench, Victoria Parry, Hannah Gulliver, Emma Broughton and Granato completed the win.

Swindon Spitfires United guaranteed a top-two finish with a 6-3 success over Marlborough Town Ladies.

Mel Bristow scored four times, Claire Morton and an own goal completing the tally.
