SWINDON Supermarine continued their preparations for the new campaign on Saturday as they hosted Paulton Rovers.

Following their 2-1 success over League One neighbours Swindon Town on Tuesday night Dave Webb’s men had to come from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw thanks to a late Luke Hopper penalty.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town got off to a winning start as they began their preparations for the forthcoming Hellenic League Premier Division campaign, recording a 3-1 victory at Purton.

Steve Robertson put the visitors in front as half-time neared, expertly controlling a right wing cross before picking out the bottom right corner of the net with a fine shot on the turn.

Shortly after the restart Ryan Thomas doubled the lead, confidently despatching a penalty awarded for a push on Kalum Youngsam.

Bassett were then caught out by a long ball over the top, which allowed Joe English to halve the deficit for Purton.

However, Thomas restored the two goal advantage in style, cutting in from the left and letting loose with a stunning 30 yard drive that fizzed into the bottom corner.

Division One West outfit Fairford Town got their pre-season friendlies underway with a visit from National League North side Gloucester City.

But Gareth Davies’ side were unable to prevent the visitors returning home 2-0 winners as Ross Staley helped himself to a brace.
