SWINDON Supermarine came from behind to beat Wantage Town 3-1 at the Webb’s Wood Stadium to remain in the play-off places.

Jake Johns gave the second highest goalscorers in the Southern League Division One South and West the lead after 11 minutes.

However, Dave Webb’s side responded well and Bradley Gray had the home side level before the break.

Jacob Davidge netted his fourth goal in three games in the second half and last season’s top goalscorer, Luke Hopper, secured the three points.

Supermarine fell behind early when Johns headed home Whitehead’s corner, with help from the underside of the crossbar.

Webb’s side were back level in the 26th minute in controversial circumstances, when Judias Carbon was adjudged to have passed the ball back to goalkeeper Edwards Cavanagh on a wet surface.

With the indirect free-kick just outside the six-yard box on the left hand side, the ball was tapped to Gray who lifted his shot past a crumbling wall.

Supermarine looked in control after that goal and, when Ashley Edenborough beat the offside trap, could have taken the lead his low cross just evaded the Jacob Davidge sliding in at the back post.

Whitehead was only denied by the post minutes before the break when he skipped past three challenges, and the hosts had Matt Bulman to thank for being level at the break when he denied substitute Adam Bruce from close range.

Davidge had the first opportunity of the second half when he rose well unmarked in the six yard box but his header was well wide.

It was Friday night’s FA Cup hero, Davidge, who did eventually put Supermarine ahead after Gray made a good run down the right flank before finding the young forward unmarked in the box.

Edenborough was denied from doubling the hosts’ lead by the crossbar, before Davidge made a dart to the byline and cut the ball back to Ryan Stanners who pulled his shot wide.

With Edenborough being replaced by Connor Waldon the home side lost some of their forward threat and Bulman was forced into a good save from Aaron Ferris.

With ten minutes remaining Ross Adams thought he had got himself a rare goal when he was found from a short corner and, with space afforded him in the box, he curled his shot towards the back post but was denied by the inside of the woodwork.

Supermarine wrapped up the win when Waldon hustled Stuart Cattell into a mistake before using his pace to break clear before squaring it for feloow subsitute Hopper to side-foot home.

Bulman saved well when exposed one-on-one with Bruce to ensure a comfortable end to the game for Supermarine.
