BASSETT Bulldogs boss Phil Harris refused to give his side a perfect 10 despite them scoring that many goals in an emphatic defeat of Division One basement boys Wheatie Wanderers.

Riccardo Serratore led the way with a magnificent seven as the Bulldogs romped home 10-4 at Sevenfields in Penhill.

Wayne Matthews, Colin Cochrane and Mark Lazenby were also on target for the winners, although Harris reckoned Bassett could have had even more goals.

“It was actually a below-par performance for ourselves,” said Harris.

“We are used to playing a bit better than that but it isn’t every week that you score 10 goals so we can’t complain too much. We were very pleased with the scoreline, just not quite so pleased with the performance.

“There were a few chances that begging. I don’t want to be harsh on the other team but we missed a few easy chances.

“Riccardo got seven goals so he was pretty happy come the final whistle. He’s a really important player for us and it was a fantastic individual performance.

“We were pretty well ahead at half-time and we started the second half quite slowly and they got a couple of goals back.

“It wasn’t all us, they played some nice stuff too but after that we settled down again and got back into our stride before the end.”

Leaders Swindon Spitfires dropped points for the first time this season as they were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Swindon Centurians.

Bulldogs are now only two points off the summit – albeit having played two games more – but Harris says the only target is bettering their eight-placed finish in 2014-15.

Harris said: “We were below par last season so we are just hoping to improve on that. We have had a good start and are up to fourth in the table so we are pretty pleased with that.”

Second-placed Morris Street were beaten 3-2 at Moredon. North Swindon WMC got the better of a 4-3 thriller at R&D United, while Chiseldon beat visiting Sport 4 Pinehurst 2-0.

There were just two games in the Premier Division, third-placed Shield & Dagger the big winners as they brushed past Lower Stratton 5-0. Old Town United triumphed 3-1 at KS Miltax.
