FAIRFORD Town manager Gareth Davies won’t be too hard on his players after seeing them fall to their second defeat in the space of a week.

A brace from Gavin Rolls was enough to send the Cinder Lane outfit out of the Hellenic League's Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Finchampstead.

Fairford had plenty of chances to win the game but only took one when Danny Hale held the ball up and brought in Luke Cordery whose ball found Lee Smith in the box to tap home from six yards out.

Lewis Petrie then had a goal disallowed for offside before Fairford had several chances to ensure they got the win but they couldn’t convert them.

“We’re disappointed to lose any game but we did dominate the match,” said Davies.

“We didn’t get too upset by the result, it wasn’t top of the list, but it in spells we were decent and if you don’t take your chances then you aren’t going to win the game.

“The goal we did get was a beautiful goal. It was a good team goal that was pleasing to see.

“If that was a league game I would have the hump because those are chances I would expect our lads to be putting away with the quality we have up front.

“Because it was a cup game, I don’t really know how to describe it, but we are not taking the defeat too hard.”

Fairford have also been boosted by the news that Jason Milhench has decided to stay with them after turning down a seven-day approach from Premier Division outfit Highworth Town.

“”If Jason is turning down the likes of Highworth to stay with us then obviously that is another big statement,” added Davies.

“The lad is very good and it is good that we can keep the likes of him.

“We are due to speak to another couple of lads in the week as well.”
