CENTURION Ashley Edenborough ensured Swindon Supermarine returned to winning ways in the league despite a slow start against AFC Totton at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

Having lost their last two games to Yate Town and Cinderford Town, it was important for Dave Webb’s team to follow up last weekend’s win in the FA Trophy with three points in Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West.

Edenborough got his 100th goal for the club when he got on the end of Matt Bulman’s long ball forward, making the most of a defensive error before slotting the ball under the goalkeeper.

Supermarine doubled their lead when a good piece of movement from Bradley Gray got him in and he finished well to secure the points for the hosts.

The win lifted Supermarine up to fourth in the league and Webb knows how important it is to stay in the play-off places for as long as possible to give themselves the best chance come the end of the season.

“It was a good win in the end and it is just finding a way to win sometimes,” he said.

“We certainly weren’t at our best in the first half, that’s for sure.

“We made some changes and we were much better in the second.

“It was a good win and a much-needed win as well in the league, having lost the last two.

“We needed that yesterday and credit to the lads for their second-half performance, which was much better than the first.

“We are back up to fourth now and it is important we stay in that top five.

“We have just got to try and stay there. A nice unbeaten run would be nice. We just need that consistency.”

Supermarine were not at the races in the first half and a double substitution at half-time did the trick for Webb.

Joe Shephard and Marcus Johnson-Schuster were both introduced to the game and made the difference to highlight the strength in depth that Supermarine possess this season.

“We are more than happy to get a clean sheet and the three points but it was always going to be a difficult game,” added Webb.

“We just didn’t reach their level in the first half.

“Players know we weren’t at the right level and I made two substitutions at half time, which says everything really.

“I think those changes made a difference and that is probably what got us back in the game.

“We have got a good group of players and if you make a change it is for a reason.

“It is sometimes difficult, when you start a game poorly, to get yourself back into the game but we certainly did that in the second half.

“You have got to be happy with a win but we have got to be better next week against Chesham.”
