SHRIVENHAM Sunday boss Paul Little had never seen his side concede more than three goals, but by the end of his side’s 7-5 win over The Windmill he was just relieved to take three points.

Shrivvy were 5-1 up at half-time, but conceded four goals after the break.

In the end The Windmill could not sustain their challenge as goals from Danny Hales (two), Sam Slade (two), Liam Hayden, Josh Mullen and Dan Dicks for Shrivenham proved enough.

The win sees league leaders, West Swindon Wanderers, advantage cut to three points with Shrivenham also holding a game in-hand.

In the second half of their latest win, Little’s second-placed outfit were never less than two goals ahead, but the boss was less than pleased with the mini-collapse.

“We were 5-1 up at half-time and they came back really well with the wind and we had to hold out, which we did well to be fair,” said Little.

“In the second half they stuck three up front, had the wind and scored four goals. They’re a decent side, I don’t know why they are where they are in the table to be honest.

“I said to their manager ‘I don’t know why you are down where you are’. At half-time I was thinking it was going to be double figures, because we were so on top, we were just camped in their half. It was like shooting practice, we hit the post, the bar and their keeper made some great saves.

“In the second half they changed it around with the three up front and we didn’t cope. They stuck three big lads up front and put a bit of pressure on us.

“I never thought we were going to lose as we always had a two-goal cushion, but when they were hitting goals like – four in 25 minutes – I thought we were in trouble. I’ve never managed a team that has conceded more than three goals in a game.

“We’ve lost talented players, one to a broken leg (Chris Jackson) and another to ligament damage (Jack Pedder), but that’s no excuse. When you’re 5-1 up you have to keep things comfortable.”
