SWINDON Supermarine J Under 12s progressed to the quarter finals of North Wilts Youth & Minor League Cup after a scrappy affair in tricky windy conditions in South Marston, which saw them beat Liden Community 7-2.

The hosts attacked Liden straight from the kick-off when Luke Legg brought out a good save from the visiting keeper.

Legg squandered another chance soon after before Zachary Evans saw a shot go just wide.

Joah Hall put Marine 1-0 up when his shot from outside the area sailed over the visiting keeper. There were chances for Rhys Ward and Josh Godwin sandwiched in between Marine doubling their advantage when Legg was on hand to pounce on Evans’ parried shot.

Ward had another shot well saved before Harry Johnson ghosted into the penalty area to make it 3-0 with a low drive into the keeper’s right hand corner. Hall made it 4-0 when he struck from the penalty spot before Max Townsend beat the offside trap after a long ball from Harley-Shaun Platt to make it five at the break.

The visitors were awarded a penalty at the start of the second half which was calmly converted to pull a goal back.

This seemed to give Liden a lift. However, Marine continued to create the most chances with Townsend firing wide, while Evans had two more chances to get on the scoresheet.

Townsend then restored Marine’s five-goal lead following goalmouth scramble.

Legg saw a free kick saved well and shortly after this the visitors got their second, again from the penalty spot, before Legg finished the scoring with the seventh.

Under 13 Division 3 FC Abbey Meads Colts ran out 4-1 winners in their match against FC Abbey Meads. The Colts took an early lead when Andrew Smith made a great run and finished well from close range. Charlie Eustice added a second after a pass from Jack Cremin put him through on goal.

Abbey Meads fought back but were thwarted by a good save from Josh Hyde and then a goal line clearance from Lewis Fisher. The Colts extended their lead after another great pass from Jack Cremin put Smith through for his second of the game and then a corner from Fergus Dean was deflected in. Abbey Meads pulled a goal back in the second half after a mix-up in the colts defence but it finished 4-1.
