SWINDON Supermarine boss Dave Webb is hoping his side can use their gutsy performance in the FA Trophy last weekend as a springboard to keep their promotion push in rude health.

On Saturday, Marine impressed but were edged out 3-2 by Premier Division outfit Chesham United in the second round proper.

This evening, Webb’s men, who are fifth in the Division One South & West table, host Evesham United at the Webb’s Wood Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm), beginning a run of three testing league assignments between now and the end of November.

The Marine manager is expecting a difficult test against the Robins, who reached the play-off semi-finals last season, but doesn’t see any reason why his troops shouldn’t be confident of embarking on a run of positive results.

“We’ve got three very tough league games ahead and we need to take what we showed on Saturday into those games and if we do that, we’ve got every chance of staying in those elusive top-five positions,” said Webb.

“It’s about carrying on and taking the good parts from Saturday into the forthcoming games.

“It’s going to be tough against Evesham. They’ve signed a couple of players (including striker Lewis Powell from Mangotsfield United) and they’ll come here looking to turn us over and put the 1-0 defeat we put on them (on August 18) to bed.

“Then we go to Taunton next Saturday, who are one of the favourites, and then we play Banbury a week on Saturday, who are the form team.

“So it’s three very difficult game but three games that we can go into in buoyant mood.”
