FOX & Hounds Freshbrook were left weeping as they were knocked out of the Swindon Sunday Football League Chairman’s Trophy by Willowgreen Hotspur.

In difficult conditions Craig Smith and Pete Burn both bagged themselves a hat-trick apiece to add to a strike from Tom Green to book their place in the semi-final with a 7-2 success.

Having not beaten Freshbrook in their two league meetings, playing out a 3-3 draw in their opening game followed by a 4-3 defeat in November, manager Mick Green was happy to get one over on their Division Four rivals.

“We drew the first time and lost the second time so it was nice to get a full squad out and get through,” he said “We were 3-0 up by half time and in the second half we got two penalties before scoring another couple to put the game to bed.

“It was really muddy and that was a bit of a leveller but we got our heads in front and managed to get the result we needed.

“It is always nice to have a cup run and have something to aim for and it was a bit of a morale boost because we haven’t had a game since early December.

“Hopefully it will inspire a couple of other players to turn up to training as it has been a real struggle to get a team out.”

The Windmill also booked a place in the last four as they completed a 6-3 win over Cricklade Park Rangers.

The other two teams through to the semis are Marlborough Town Casuals, who were 4-2 victors over town rivals Athletico Marlborough, and AFC Moonrakers, won 7-2 over Rodbourne Real.

In the Knockout Cup, the only quarter-final game to beat the weather was holders Greyhound as they scraped through with a 3-2 win over Division Two Cleeve Tech.

Meanwhile, in the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield Woodlands Edge rolled over Save on Tyres Athletic with a 4-1 win and Eldene booked their place in the semi-finals with a 3-2 victory over 3-2.

In Division Three DH Fitness were 7-1 winners over bottom-of-the-league AFC Wedge, while AFC Cricklade stayed top of Division Five with a 7-4 win over Highworth Town Sunday.
