ROYAL Wootton Bassett manager Paul Braithwaite admits he has got a tough choice to make when his side make the trip to rock-bottom Wokingham and Emmbrook.

While keeper Curtis Meare’s two-match ban, following a second red card of the season last weekend in the 1-0 defeat to Longlevens, does not kick until next weekend, facing the Premier Division’s basement boys could be an ideal chance to give Bassett’s back-up stoppers an opportunity in the first team.

“We have got two keepers in the reserves, Dave Groom and Lewis Kuczynski, that we are going to have to look at in training,” Braithwaite said. “We are going to lose Curtis for a couple of matches and we are going to have to make a decision over that.

“We could have a look at them against Wokingham, but we will first see how they go in training this week before any decision is made.”

Although only two sides have failed to depart the Triangle Ground without a win this term, Braithwaite is taking nothing for granted.

“Playing the bottom of the table is no guarantee - they are fighting for their lives,” he said. “We played them earlier in the season and it was a strange game because we had our keeper (Meare) sent off in that match too for a crazy moment of madness.

“It would have been nice going there with four, maybe even six points after the last two games, but instead we are going there with just the three.”

Meanwhile, Highworth Town are sweating over the fitness of skipper TJ Bohane for tomorrow’s trip to Thame United.

The Worthians hotshot was helped off the pitch in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Ascot United after a blow to his ankle.

However, should Bohane fail to recover, boss John Fisher can call on new signing Levi Cox after he came off the bench last Saturday to score on his debut after joining from Western League side Corsham Town.

“I've liked Levi for years, but every time I've gone in for him, he has stayed where he was,” Fisher said. “We were speaking to Ash (Edenborough) but couldn’t agree terms, so I went back for Levi.

“He wanted to give it a go for the 16 games, he knows we have a chance of winning something. He is a nice lad; he works all the time and can score.’’
