WITH time running out, Royal Wootton Bassett Town will go looking to arrest their form at the last moment this weekend but face a sizeable task if they’re to do so.

Paul Braithwaite’s side, who were beaten 2-0 at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground by Ascot United in their last outing on Saturday, have gone nine matches without a victory in the Hellenic League Premier Division, conceding 20 goals in the process and avoiding defeat just three times.

Bassett, who last tasted victory when they beat Wokingham & Emmbrook 2-1 on February 6, host Thatcham Town in their final home match of the season this weekend – the Berkshire outfit are four points behind leaders Kidlington as they chase the title.

Elsewhere, Highworth Town are also looking to bounce back to winning ways after suffering two defeats in the space of three days.

John Fisher’s men triumphed 3-2 at Longlevens last Saturday but on Easter Monday, they were handed a shock as they were defeated by the same scoreline at the hands of bottom-of-the-table Wokingham and then on Wednesday night, they were humbled 2-0 by Highmoor-Ibis.

Goals from Mitchell Parker and Anthony White handed Highmoor all three points at the Elms and Fisher’s men will be aiming to fare better when they host third-from-bottom Milton United next weekend.
