JUSTIN Miller reckons a top-six finish would represent a solid return for Purton as their Division One West campaign winds down to a close.

The Red House men shared the spoils with Easington Sports, one place above them in fifth, and two more wins from their final two matches should be enough to wrap up a top-half finish for Miller's troops.

Shannon Pocock gave the home side the lead in the first half on Saturday, but a strong spell from Easington put them in command of the contest as Andrew Stidder netted twice after the break.

Pocock though restored parity as Purton drew for the sixth time in 12 home league games this campaign.

Miller said: "It was a good game and we're actually disappointed not to have taken the three points.

"In the first half we went 1-0 up and had control of it really. We also had a really good penalty appeal turned down.

"We came out in the second half and should have gone two up, but then we lost the game for 20 minutes and they (Easington) had a good spell and scored two goals.

"Shannon scored for us again and I thought that we looked like the team that was going to go on and win it. But it was two well-matched teams really.''

Purton's final two matches are against third-placed Carterton next weekend and Hook Norton, in fourth, on Tuesday week and while those meetings will have bigger ramifications for their promotion-chasing opponents, Miller is determined to conclude his side's campaign in winning fashion.

"We'll need at least one more win (to finish in the top six) and we want to finish as high as we can,'' he added.

"Top six would be no mean achievement. We've had a lot of problems with goalkeepers this season - we must have used about six - and we haven't had that consistent second striker to play alongside Ben Carter, but we've done quite well.''

Fairford Town continued to do all they can to wrap up at least a promotion spot as they won 2-0 at Letcombe Sports on Saturday.

Gareth Davies' men have one match remaining - Shortwood United the visitors next weekend - and must then await the conclusion to the campaign of leaders Cheltenham Saracens - who head the table from the Cinder Lane men on goal difference - Carterton and Hook Norton, all of whom have several games in hand.

Luke Cordery and Jack Ellis scored in each half to secure Fairford's 17th win of the season and they travel to Saracens for a Bluefin Sports Supplementary Challenge Cup quarter final tonight (7.45pm).

Second-from-bottom New College failed to make any dent in Shortwood United - two places above them as they were dumped 4-0 at the Webb's Wood Stadium.

James Singh scored twice, while Luke Blynnworth and Ollie Portlock also found the net.
