SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb believes their performance didn’t warrant the 4-1 scoreline as they fell away to fellow promotion chasers Cinderford Town.

The visitors held their own in the first half with Connor Waldon and Conor Thompson both going close but the floodgates opened just after the hour mark.

An Ethan Moore header gave the Foresters the lead in the 62nd minute to spark four goals in 12 minutes as George Lloyd, Lee Smith and Niall Rowe put the home side in a commanding position.

Bradley Gray netted in the 89th minute for Marine but it was little more than a consolation goal as they lost ground on second-placed Cinderford.

“I don’t think the result really reflects the game,” said Webb.

“We played very well at times and caused them a lot of problems.

“They are a good side, they are one of the top two and are looking to try and win the league so we always knew it was going to be a difficult game but I was really pleased with the way we played at times.

“The way we set the team up I thought really suited us and nullified their threats a little bit.

“However, in 12 minutes we just capitulated. We conceded the first goal and then conceded four goals in 12 minutes and then it is game over by that stage.

“Ross Adams was really on one leg for the second half but with injuries and people unavailable today we had no real replacements on the bench in terms of defenders.”

Supermarine now occupy the final play-off spot with a five-point cushion between themselves and Evesham United in sixth spot and Webb is keen to keep that gap.

“It is one game,” he added.

“We still have four games left to play and know what we need to do in terms of the points tally we need to get so we just need to take care of the next game.

“Tuesday’s game is massively important and we know we need to go and win that now and then we play Yate at home next weekend and they are two games we should be looking at trying to win.

“The players are a little bit down after the game but I have tried to give them a very positive message that we are where we are, we are still in pole position and it is still in our hands to reach the play-offs.

“It is down to us now. We need to show our mettle and show our togetherness and our quality in the next four games and get the points we need to get into the play-offs.”
